Funding

# How we make money

Payment can fund an assessment. Passing requires meeting the published requirements.

Last updated October 29, 2026 · [How assessment works](https://localstandardlist.com/assessment/)

## Where the money comes from

### Assessment fees

Businesses that apply pay for the checks. Same fee, pass or fail.

### Enhanced profiles

Optional extra photos and project details, labelled "Enhanced profile · paid".

### Quote requests

A fee per request a business receives through us, only from homeowners who picked it.

## What money never does

- Buy a pass, or a faster decision.
- Change list order. Lists are A to Z.
- Hide a result, a removed status or a correction.
- Change what a standard requires.

## Sponsored placements

If a business ever pays for a placement, it is labelled Sponsored and shown outside the register, never inside a list of businesses that meet a standard.

## Questions about funding

Does the assessment fee change the result?

No. The fee is the same pass or fail, and the result depends only on the published requirements and the evidence on the check date.

Why do businesses pay for assessment at all?

The checks take time: record lookups, test calls and review counts. Fees from businesses that apply pay for that work, so homeowners never pay to use the site.

Are paid profiles marked?

Yes. Enhanced profiles carry the label “Enhanced profile · paid” on every listing, and they never change status or the A to Z order.

## Pass or fail, never paid

A business meets the standard only if it meets every published requirement on the date of its record. Payment does not buy a pass. [How we make money](https://localstandardlist.com/how-we-make-money/)

## No rankings

Businesses that meet a standard are listed A to Z. We don't rank them against each other, and nobody can pay to move up a list. Paid enhanced profiles are labelled.

## Something wrong?

Homeowners can report a problem with a listed business, and businesses can ask for a result to be re-checked. [Corrections](https://localstandardlist.com/corrections/) · [Contact](https://localstandardlist.com/contact/)

**Local Standard**

Local businesses that meet a clear, published standard. Every requirement, edition and check date is on the record.
