# Data sources

Local Standard is built from public data and records. This page lists where each kind of information comes from, so you can judge it and check it yourself. Business pages name the source and date of their data.

## Google Maps data

Business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, opening hours, ratings and review counts come in large part from Google Maps data that we collected earlier, between October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026. Ratings and review counts are a snapshot, not a live feed, and can differ from what Google shows today. Some ratings and review counts come from Google Maps data collected in 2021; where that is the case they are labelled with that year, for example "123 (2021)".

## Overture Maps Places

We also use Overture Maps Places (release 2026-10-21.0) to find businesses and to confirm names, addresses, phone numbers, websites and whether a place is still open. This data is available under the [Community Data License Agreement, Permissive, Version 2.0 (CDLA-Permissive-2.0)](https://cdla.dev/permissive-2-0/).

## U.S. Census Bureau

City figures such as population, households, home values, owner-occupied share and the age of the housing stock come from the [U.S. Census Bureau](https://www.census.gov) (population estimates and the American Community Survey). Each fact shows its source and period where it appears.

## State licence records

Where a state publishes licence records, we look businesses up in them. For Florida this is the [Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR)](https://www2.myfloridalicense.com). A licence check shows what the record said on the date it was checked; it is not a guarantee of work quality. Insurance and similar documents are only shown when the business sent them to us.

## How often data is refreshed

- Business details, ratings and review counts: refreshed in regular rounds. Each page shows the date it was last updated (this page set: October 29, 2026).
- Overture Maps Places: we take over each new release after checking it; releases are published about monthly.
- Census figures: updated when the Bureau publishes new estimates, usually once a year.
- Licence and record checks: repeated when a check is due; the check date is shown next to each result.

## Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, [tell us](https://localstandardlist.com/corrections/) and we will correct it. How lists are put together is described in [our methodology](https://localstandardlist.com/assessment/).

## Pass or fail, never paid

A business meets the standard only if it meets every published requirement on the date of its record. Payment does not buy a pass. [How we make money](https://localstandardlist.com/how-we-make-money/)

## No rankings

Businesses that meet a standard are listed A to Z. We don't rank them against each other, and nobody can pay to move up a list. Paid enhanced profiles are labelled.

## Something wrong?

Homeowners can report a problem with a listed business, and businesses can ask for a result to be re-checked. [Corrections](https://localstandardlist.com/corrections/) · [Contact](https://localstandardlist.com/contact/)

**Local Standard**

Local businesses that meet a clear, published standard. Every requirement, edition and check date is on the record.
