# Apply for a Local Standard assessment

Read the requirements. If you meet them, apply: we check every requirement and publish the result with the edition and date. The fee funds the assessment; passing requires meeting the criteria.

Fees are shown before you apply. Quote requests sent to you through Local Standard carry a per-request fee, shown before you switch them on.

## What we check

### Identity and contact

- LS-01

**Business identity confirmed**

The business operates under the name shown.

How we check: Public business records and listings, on the check date.

- LS-02

**Address confirmed**

The address shown is real and belongs to the business.

How we check: Public records and map listings.

- LS-03

**Phone number reaches the business**

The published phone number is answered by the business.

How we check: Test call and public listings.

- LS-04

**Website confirmed**

The website shown belongs to the business and is live.

How we check: Checked directly on the check date.

### Review record

- LS-05

**Minimum review volume**

At least the minimum number of public reviews set in the method.

How we check: Counted on the check date from public review sources.

- LS-06

**Minimum average rating**

An average public rating at or above the minimum set in the method.

How we check: Calculated to one decimal before comparing.

## Questions from businesses

Do I pass if I pay the assessment fee?

No. The fee pays for the checks and is the same whether you pass or not. You meet the standard only when every published requirement is met.

What if I miss a requirement?

Your record shows which requirement was not met and why. Fix it and ask for one free re-check; the result is updated with the new date.

Should I send my insurance certificate?

Yes, if you want it on your record. It is shown as a document supplied by the business, with its end date. It is recorded, not a requirement of the current edition.

Will my business be listed if I don't apply?

It may be on our register from public information, and it is listed only if it meets every requirement. Not applying says nothing about your quality.

## Pass or fail, never paid

## No rankings

Businesses that meet a standard are listed A to Z. We don't rank them against each other, and nobody can pay to move up a list. Paid enhanced profiles are labelled.
